Young talent competition54th round of 'Jugend forscht' launched

Under the motto "Ask yourself!", the 'Jugend forscht' competition is starting a new round. As of now, young people can once again register their research projects in the fields of mathematics, computer science, natural sciences and technology (STEM).

The basic principle for successfully building a good loudspeaker is: try it out! Sound tinkerer and math fan Robin Christ also built his own loudspeakers. Despite his extensive experience, he initially created many prototypes before he was able to present a model with a warm sound and "wide stage", i.e. with a strong, room-filling sound. To speed up the design process, the young researcher developed an algorithm to solve the Helmholtz equation using the so-called boundary element method, which he used to simulate sound waves in three-dimensional space. He adapted his algorithm so that it could be run on a computing cluster in order to carry out complex simulations for large loudspeakers in a reasonable amount of time. Christ thus achieved national victory in the field of mathematics/computer science at Jugend forscht 2018.
