Siemens Digital Industries Software has introduced the latest version of its 'Solid Edge' software. Solid Edge 2020 offers features such as augmented reality, advanced validation tools, model-based definitions and 2D nesting, allowing design-to-manufacturing processes to be fully digitized. The augmented reality features, for example, allow users to visualize designs in new ways and ensure improved collaboration both internally and with suppliers and customers during the design process. Powerful validation tools have been integrated to perform motion and vibration simulation, helping customers to avoid expensive prototypes. The addition of model-based definition allows users to define parts, assemblies and manufacturing instructions completely digitally from 3D models. In addition, 2D nesting functions have been added to optimize cutting patterns, reduce scrap and costs and speed up manufacturing processes.
