Premiere for the Amazon cloud

Amazon Web Services (AWS) will be represented at Hannover Messe for the first time this year. With its cloud, Amazon wants to support the manufacturing industry in its digital transformation - and is underpinning this with numerous showcases.

The German manufacturing industry is facing its biggest challenge in decades: Industry 4.0 and Smart Services suggest that business models need to be transformed while maintaining and expanding existing shares of the value chain. The AWS Cloud as an infrastructure platform aims to support this transformation, which will become clear at Hannover Messe 2017. Topics and highlights of the AWS presentation are

Scalable software model

Together with Onshape, Siemens and Infor as well as start-ups such as Rescale and Actyx, AWS is showcasing an end-to-end industrial software chain. It is intended to demonstrate that manufacturing companies are able to use advanced software technologies in a fully scalable model - with a significantly more favorable cost structure.

Cloud-based automation
The Cloud Industrial Automation Center will occupy part of the AWS booth (outdoor area, booth R139), where manufacturers of industrial components will demonstrate the seamless connection between standard automation devices and the AWS Cloud. Customers such as Beckhoff, B&R, Harting and Wago will be demonstrating how they use the cloud. They will also demonstrate application scenarios such as energy data management or predictive maintenance for their customers.

Robots vs. robots
For the first time, AWS will present an industrial use case of AWS Greengrass Edge Computing technology for real-time control: two Kuka Agilus robots will play pong against each other on a conveyor belt - controlled by AWS Edge technology.

Software systems in the cloud

Contemporary production design and production itself rely heavily on sophisticated software systems. AWS is working with industry leaders to offer these software systems in the cloud. This not only reduces costs across the entire value chain. It also speeds up the process of bringing an idea to market.

Intelligent products and services
A large part of Industry 4.0 takes place after the product has left the factory. Smart products and services are defined by the AWS Cloud as the underlying technology. AWS will demonstrate this using B2B and B2C application scenarios in the areas of industry, energy, intelligent building technology and smart home.
