The digital transformation is also in full swing in the mechanical engineering sector. This is the conclusion reached by the VDMA Software and Digitalization Association in its 'IT Report 2018', for which around 100 companies were surveyed on investment projects and IT trend topics.

Virtual reality is now also very important in mechanical engineering, as the topic is relevant for around 70 percent of companies. One in five companies already uses such solutions, and this figure is expected to grow to around 45% in the next two years. In terms of technology, smartphones, tablets and smart glasses are at the forefront.
