Hannover Messe 2023
Politics meets industry
The Hannover Messe opens its doors to international visitors on April 17. Politicians also use the trade fair to gain an overview of the trends in the industry.
According to the organizer, Deutsche Messe AG, around 4,000 companies from the mechanical engineering, electrical and digital industries as well as the energy sector are expected in Hanover. This year, the industry show, which will take place from April 17 to 21, will be held under the motto "Industrial Transformation - Making the Difference". The focus will be on technologies for a networked and climate-neutral industry. "CO2-neutral production, artificial intelligence, hydrogen technologies, energy management and Industry 4.0 - these are the overarching themes of Hannover Messe 2023," says Dr. Jochen Köckler, CEO of Deutsche Messe AG. "Only by combining these technologies will it be possible to secure our prosperity in the long term and at the same time drive forward climate protection."
Politics comes to Hanover
The automation, electrical and digital industries in particular are considered key sectors on the road to sustainable production. At the Hannover Messe, politicians traditionally take the opportunity to get an idea of current trends in the industry. Aware of the political attention, companies also use the Hannover Messe to position themselves in terms of economic policy.
This year, the Hannover Messe will be opened by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Joko Widodo, the President of this year's partner country Indonesia. Back in January, the Indonesian President and leading representatives of the International Partners Group (IPG) launched a Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) in Bali. In addition to Germany, the IPG also includes the USA, Japan, Denmark, the European Union, France, the UK, Italy, Canada and Norway. With the help of this partnership, Indonesia will draw up an investment plan to achieve its ambitious climate targets. This makes the world's fourth most populous country a highly relevant buyer of energy and industrial technology and a potential customer for the exhibiting companies at Hannover Messe.
Federal Minister of Economics Robert Habeck is expected to attend on the second day of the trade fair. He wants to discuss the best way to achieve climate-friendly production with the industry. The Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection wants to support large companies with climate protection contracts worth billions to help them switch to climate-friendly production. The energy system is also being restructured: Renewable energies are being expanded and power plant fleets are being modernized. New power plants must be hydrogen-ready and planned as such from the outset. For this reason, hydrogen is one of five trend topics at this year's industry show.
According to the organizers, more than 500 companies will be presenting hydrogen and fuel technologies at the exhibition grounds in Hanover. Other overarching themes include CO2-neutral production, artificial intelligence, energy management and Industry 4.0.
LoRaWAN on the exhibition grounds
In addition to the 5G campus network on the exhibition grounds, another wireless communication network was installed - Long Range Wide Area Network, LoRaWAN for short. Deutsche Messe and Digimondo have concluded an agreement for this. From now on, exhibitors at all trade fairs will benefit from this service. LoRaWan makes it possible to transmit sensor data over long distances with minimal energy consumption. This is independent of existing mobile phone reception and has potential across all industries. Machines and devices can be intelligently networked, data can be collected in real time, documented centrally on a dashboard and evaluated. This makes processes more efficient and decisions can be made more quickly.
Digimondo will be showcasing individual use cases at the trade fair in Hall 14, Stand H06. Sensors have been installed at various points on the exhibition grounds for this purpose. One specific application, for example, is noise level measurement in the exhibition halls.
