Prof. Dr. Johanna Wanka, Federal Minister of Education and Research, will announce the winner of the Hermes Award 2016 on April 24 following the opening ceremony of the Hannover Messe. The jury has now nominated the five finalists.
The nominated product 'VSi' from J. Schmalz is a vacuum and pressure switch that is equipped with both IO-Link technology and NFC technology for the first time. The user can therefore read and set all important data directly with mobile devices such as tablets or smart phones. This allows production processes to be optimized or made more efficient directly on site. Faults can also be diagnosed, analyzed and ultimately rectified more quickly. According to supplier J. Schmalz, the modular switch is an Industry 4.0-capable component and makes a significant contribution to predictive maintenance and the visualization of important process data on a wirelessly connected consumer device.
