The new version 9 of the Simatic PCS 7 process control system supports the Profinet Industrial Ethernet standard with two new decentralized peripheral lines for more digitalization down to field level: Firstly, with the Simatic ET 200SP HA I/O system, which is designed for high availability and can be used directly in the field up to Ex zone 2. Despite its compact and extremely space-saving design - the width of the new module has been reduced by almost half - up to 16 channels can be operated. In addition, the number of modules per head module or per station has been increased from 12 to 56, which corresponds to almost 900 I/O signals instead of the previous 96 I/O signals (when using 8-channel modules).
The Simatic Compact Field Unit (CFU) for the integration of field devices, which is also new, combines the simple handling of familiar 4-20mA technology with the advantages of digital fieldbus technology and simplifies the installation of decentralized peripherals. In addition to the 8 Profibus PA connections, there are also 8 discrete I/O channels available, which can be freely configured as DI (Digital Input) or DO (Digital Output) channel by channel via software.
