Factory automation starts with 8% sales growth
Companies in the automation industry believe they are well positioned for the incipient economic recovery. From January to April 2021, factory automation in Germany recorded a year-on-year increase in sales of 8%.
"In recent months, automation companies have impressively demonstrated that their supply chains are resilient and highly competitive," says Rainer Brehm, new Chairman of the ZVEI Automation Association. "The current economic figures make us optimistic that the recovery will continue."
Brehm also believes that automation is well positioned for the future: Production is currently undergoing a huge transformation, as disruptive technologies such as cloud and edge technologies, artificial intelligence and blockchain as well as ecological aspects are being incorporated into automation solutions. "In 20 years, the manufacturing industry should be CO2-neutral. Automation already has many solutions at the ready." In addition, enormous savings have been achieved in the DC industry research project, for example, and the ZVEI has played a key role in developments in the area of the administration shell and the digital type plate.
Rainer Brehm, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Factory Automation at Siemens, was elected as the new chairman at the board meeting of the Automation Association. He succeeds Dr. Jan Mrosik, Knorr-Bremse. Ulrich Leidecker, Phoenix Contact, and Christian Wendler, Lenze, were elected deputy chairmen.
