With Industrial Edge, Siemens offers users the opportunity to close the gap between classic local data processing and cloud-based data processing, depending on their individual requirements. With edge computing, large amounts of data can be processed locally in almost real time without any feedback. It also reduces storage and transmission costs for users, as large volumes of data are pre-processed and only relevant data is then transferred to a cloud or in-house IT infrastructure. The 'Industrial Edge' supports cloud transmission protocols for 'Mindsphere', the open, cloud-based IoT operating system from Siemens, and will also support Message Queuing Telemetry Transport (MQTT) in the future to ensure flexible data exchange with other systems and clouds.
