Youth researchYoung scientists honored

A robotic sparring partner for boxing training, the Internet of Things for the home or a camera that always shoots blur-free films thanks to motors and position sensors - the creativity of the young researchers at the 51st national finals knew no bounds. Now the winners have been announced.

Videos taken freehand are often blurred. Josua Janus (18) and Max Frankenhauser (18) from Lahr therefore built a so-called cardian suspension to stabilize their camera while filming. This allows the camera to rotate freely around the three spatial axes so that it can always align itself according to gravity. Because this process is not always fast enough in practice, the students integrated small self-built motors and position sensors into their system, which bring the camera into the desired position in real time. Similar, very expensive systems are already on the market. The young researchers therefore developed their system in a cost-optimized way. It was manufactured from PLA plastic using 3D printing and by hand from aluminum.
