IBM opened the Watson IoT Center in Munich on February 16, 2017. Computer&AUTOMATION was able to take a look inside the Industry Lab, where IBM is working with partner companies on a wide range of Watson projects.

A maintenance app was developed together with John Deere: the worker in production reports faults via smartphone, which are then forwarded to maintenance staff. The maintenance specialist then takes a photo of the faulty machine, which is recognized by the cognitive system Watson after appropriate training, analyses the fault and evaluates it. The specialist discusses these findings with Watson, which then suggests measures to rectify the fault.
