Product presentationsNews about TSN & OPC UA
OPC UA is now finding its way into new products across the board. But more and more companies are also including the term TSN in their product descriptions. The picture gallery presents some of these innovations.

Congatec has used a demo installation to show how real-time data can still be transmitted synchronously even when the Ethernet connection is busy. The company is running the live demo on several 'conga-PA5' Pico-ITX boards, which stream a high-resolution video file as the Ethernet base load and also generate and transmit real-time-critical data in parallel. In the demo, the IEEE 1588 Precision Time Protocol synchronization can be switched on or off via a digital switch in order to measure and display the difference in communication behavior. The IEEE 1588 Precision Time Protocol enables high-precision synchronization of distributed devices and fog servers via Ethernet. The maximum jitter can thus be reduced to the nanosecond range. In order to comply with IEEE 1588, the feature set provides a software-definable pin for each Ethernet interface, which is part of all current Congatec Computer-On-Module implementations. This physical pin can be configured as an input or output and is controlled by the corresponding Ethernet controller, which enables the implementation of a hardware-based timing protocol in accordance with IEEE 1588 for high-performance real-time applications.
