Siemens is expanding its 'Ruggedcom' portfolio with an Ethernet switch suitable for 19-inch racks. The Ruggedcom RST2228 has four integrated uplinks with a transmission rate of 1/10 Gbit/s and up to 24 modular interfaces with 10/100/1000 Mbit/s. The robust layer 2 rack switch also enables precise clock synchronization by supporting the IEEE 1588 transparent clock method. The robust switch is suitable for operation at temperatures from -40 to +85 °C and in the presence of strong electrical interference. The 24 interfaces are based on six modular slots, each of which supports four interfaces. The device can be ordered pre-configured with modules, but can also be combined with the separately orderable media modules "Ruggedcom RMM2973-4RJ45", "RMM2973-4FC2" and "RMM2972-4SFP" for quick on-site installation and modification. This simplifies the migration from copper to fiber optic cable networks.
