ESS Embedded Systems Solutions is expanding its CAN protocol converter portfolio with a CAN FD Bluetooth adapter. CANgineFD_BT offers a 32-bit Cortex-M4 microcontroller that is clocked at 80 MHz and thus supports CAN FD data rates of up to 10 Mbit/s. Together with the built-in Class 1 Bluetooth module (with a range of 100 m), the adapter can couple CAN and CAN FD networks with a smartphone or tablet. Thanks to the Bluetooth Serial Port Profile (SSP) and the ASCII protocol, integration into any Bluetooth-enabled platform is simple. The adapter is available in two firmware versions: The generic version uses an extension of the Serial CAN Protocol (SLCAN) to be able to send and receive any CAN and CAN FD telegrams at freely adjustable bit rates. With the help of the CANopen FD firmware, the device becomes a wireless gateway for CANopen FD networks. This makes it possible to access all object directory entries of all connected CANopen FD devices with simple serial commands.
