Westermo has released version 1.4 of its WeConfig network configuration and management tool. Thanks to its intuitive handling, the update enables users to save time and money when configuring, commissioning and maintaining an industrial network. According to the provider, it also offers various cyber security functionalities. These include perimeter protection, network segmentation, intrusion detection as well as spoofing protection with MAC address filtering and the configuration of IEEE802.1x port access authentication. To secure networks against unauthorized intrusion, the tool can also be used to first scan and then harden the security functions of switches. Standard passwords can be changed in the network at the same time and unused ports can be deactivated. To further minimize security risks, Windows XP is no longer supported. Together with the firewall functionalities of the company's own operating system 'WeOS', WeConfig also supports security configurations for network interfaces that protect industrial networks from web attacks. The tool simplifies both initial installation and ongoing maintenance with backups and firmware upgrades of individual or multiple Westermo devices in large data communication networks. The tool can also be used as a monitoring and diagnostic tool.
