From research to practice: IP protection and licensing in 3D printing
For cost and time reasons, 3D printing is increasingly being realized by local 3D service providers. As the digital object to be printed passes through several hands, it must be possible to edit this file throughout the entire process chain, but it must still be protected against piracy. Illegal "special shifts" must also be prevented.
The presentation will introduce the CodeMeter technology, which encrypts both valuable software and all digital data generated during 3D printing along the entire process chain and also provides a tamper-proof counter to check the number of printed parts.
The presentation will also focus on research. Wibu-Systems is involved in the German-Chinese research project ProCloud3D of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research, which focuses on a model platform for additive manufacturing as a service. The intangible but valuable assets, designs and production data created during industrial 3D printing are securely protected.
