Two new certified safety feedback systems are now available for Kollmorgen's AKM servomotors as sin-cos encoders (Hiperface) for singleturn and multiturn applications. One design detail of the new safety solution is the mechanical coupling between the motor and encoder. It cannot slip due to its dimensioning with at least 20 times the overload. As documentation is becoming increasingly important within safety certification, the system also provides the corresponding TÜV certificates with safety level SIL2 or PLd. This means that a separate evaluation is no longer necessary, which saves time and money according to the manufacturer. Because the safe monitoring of movements and speeds is linked to the encoder, the feedback cannot simply be changed when adapting machine solutions because the design is virtually frozen with the certification. However, if the encoder can be flexibly connected to different motors, the safety design remains unchanged and still provides the scope for adjustments without the need for re-evaluation. According to the company, long-term conformity with safety standards and long-term availability are also ensured.
