In the 3D printing process used by Siemens, the fiber laser shapes the turbine blades using a digital production plan, also known as a CAD model. A laser beam moves over a layer of metal powder and welds the first layer of the three-dimensional object. A new layer of metal powder is then spread over the surface. Now the laser beam prints a second layer. Step by step, the turbine blade is created.
