Power know-how for system developers

System developers also need to keep an eye on the topic of power supply - the 1st Power Supply User Forum of Markt&Technik and Design&Elektronik will explain what needs to be considered.

In collaboration with well-known industry partners such as Puls, TDK-Lambda, Recom Power, Vicor, EOS Power, Eplax and Friwo Gerätebau, the trade journals Markt&Technik and Design&Elektronik are organizing a one-and-a-half-day power supply user forum on 9-10 March 2016 at the Munich University of Applied Sciences building at Lothstraße 64. This event is primarily aimed at system developers who are faced with the task of designing a power supply for a system to be developed and purchasing it as a bought-in product.

Today, the strengths of developers lie primarily in the digital and software sector. Analog technology, and this includes the topic of power supply, is therefore something that very few people consider to be one of their core competencies. However, when professional success takes you from detailed solutions to responsibility for the overall solution, there is no getting around the fact that you also need to acquire the necessary expertise in power. The power supply user forum, which is clearly tailored to the needs of users, is intended to provide system developers with assistance in selecting and defining the performance parameters of a power supply.

On the first day of the event, March 9, 2016, four speakers from renowned power supply manufacturers (Michael Raspotnig, Puls, Peter Runz, TDK-Lambda, as well as Thomas Rechlin and Josefine Lametschwandtner, both from Recom Engineering) will provide the most important basics on the topics of power supplies and DC/DC converters in a basic seminar from 1 pm to 6 pm. The aim of this basic seminar is to provide system developers with the knowledge that will enable them to make a qualified pre-selection based on the data sheet of a power supply and then ask the power supply providers targeted questions. The first day will end with a get-together from 6 to 7.30 pm.

The second day, March 10, 2016, will begin at 9 a.m. with a keynote speech by Bernhard Erdl, founder and president of Puls, on the topic: "The power supply - key component and success factor of any electrical system". This will be followed by 15 presentations by power supply manufacturers and power specialists, who will provide information on a wide range of aspects of power supply use. The spectrum of presentations ranges from scalable laboratory power supply units with the highest power density based on SiC to the supply from high primary voltages of 200 V to 4.5 kV to the implementation of power supplies in the system and their metrological analysis or a presentation entitled: "Power 4.0 - The digital revolution!".

The Power Supply User Forum at Munich University of Applied Sciences will be accompanied by an exhibition of participating companies and other power supply specialists. In addition to the get-together on the evening of March 9, a lunch break and several coffee breaks will provide an opportunity for networking and, on the second day in particular, the chance to discuss the right solution for your specific application problem at the exhibitors' stands.

The 1st Power Supply User Forum of Markt&Technik and Design&Elektronik, which takes place parallel to the Design&Elektronik Developer Forum "Batteries & Charging Concepts", will end on March 10, 2016 at around 6.45 pm. Interested parties can register on the website of the Power Supply User Forum.
