The VDMA has announced the figures for global machine sales. According to the figures, this fell by a nominal 1% to 2530 billion euros in 2016. Germany, on the other hand, saw a slight increase.

... an increase of 1% compared to the previous year. China retained its top position in the country ranking as the world's largest machine manufacturer by a clear margin in 2016. However, total sales of the equivalent of EUR 964 billion represented a decline of 2% compared to the previous year. As in the previous year, the USA followed in second place; here the decline in turnover was even greater at 4% to the equivalent of EUR 335 billion. Among the top 10 largest machine manufacturers, Japan (4th place) recorded particularly strong growth with an 11% increase in turnover to the equivalent of 238 billion euros, while the UK, in 9th place, recorded a significant decline in turnover (minus 9%).
