Without drive technology - in the truest sense of the word - nothing would turn in most machines and systems. Computer&AUTOMATION presents the latest innovations in this automation discipline in a series of pictures.

According to the manufacturer Siko, the Ethernet and fieldbus actuators AG25 and AG26 take up not much more space than a 0.33-liter beverage can ("AG25"). This makes the drives suitable for fully automatic format adjustment in machines and systems where space is limited. Applications for the actuators include the adjustment of formats, stops, tool pulls and valves. Despite their compact dimensions, the two drives are an all-in-one solution for mechanical engineering. They have a hollow shaft with clamping ring for easy installation. The motor, gearbox, power electronics and bus communication are integrated into the positioning drives, so that only the bus connection and a 24 V DC voltage supply need to be supplied in the field. The integrated multiturn absolute encoder detects the position of the drive shaft even when the shaft is turned when the actuator is de-energized. This means that travel ranges of up to more than 2500 revolutions are possible. In addition to the "Sikonet5", Profibus and CAN data interfaces, Profinet, EthernetIP, Ethercat and Powerlink are implemented in the actuators. For this purpose, the actuators have two M12-D-coded bus connections for the cable-friendly creation of a bus line without having to carry out star-shaped wiring to the control system. An additional serial service interface can be used to access the actuator without a controller.
