Control your home lighting with your smartphone? Thanks to Nils Lüpke's (16) IoT box, household appliances can communicate with each other. They can be controlled centrally and inform the user about events. Manufacturers already offer IoT-enabled household appliances. However, you have to buy new ones to implement the concept. "Ecological nonsense", Lüpke thought, and developed a box that is compatible with existing household appliances. In addition to a WLAN chip, the box contains an infrared transmitter and receiver, for example for TV sets, and a 433 MHz transmitter for radio-controlled sockets. The central component is the IoT server programmed on the basis of a database, which is used to manage the devices.
