Under the motto 'Spring!', the Jugend forscht research competition is entering a new round. For the 53rd time, young people are invited to present their innovative research projects - in the fields of mathematics, computer science, natural sciences and technology.

... Ice formation on the wings can lead to a crash. Fabian Albrecht (19) and Felix Haag (18) therefore developed a heatable rotor for multicopters. They burned a wafer-thin silver coating into the surface of the rotor. This is conductive and heats up when current flows through it. Temperature sensors on the rotors report the risk of icing to a microcontroller and thus control the heating power as required This will enable drones to take off even in critical weather conditions in future. The two students were awarded 3rd prize in the technology category and a scholarship for a place at a Bundeswehr university.
