Lynx Software Technologies has released version 5.3 of its separation kernel 'LynxSecure'. LynxSecure 5.3 is a DoD-certified secure virtualization solution based on separation kernel technology. In an IoT gateway, the solution ensures a robust separation of domains. This ensures that the Operational Technology (OT) network hosting the IoT endpoints is securely isolated from the wider IT network. LynxSecure 5.3 is a platform for 'LSA.connect', a secure network encryption component that utilizes bare metal applications under LynxSecure (LSAs). In its simplest configuration, LSA.connect can be used to encrypt network traffic without providing a large attack surface for malware to exploit. This is achieved by keeping the network encryption algorithms in their own secure domain, away from the Internet-connected operating system and the encryption keys themselves. In more sophisticated configurations, LSA.connect can be used to extend the principle of domain separation to the network. For this purpose, there are isolated encryption tunnels over a single physical network connection, each in its own isolated domain.
