In the age of Industry 4.0 and Big Data, the topic of IT security is becoming increasingly important. Computer&AUTOMATION has summarized product innovations in the field of security in a series of pictures.

NetModule offers enhanced protection against cyber attacks for its 'Railway Router'. The company is thus addressing secure WAN and WLAN connections in trains, which are increasingly coming into focus with the expansion of (P)WLAN. The certified railway routers enable the exchange of operating data, passenger information systems, the making of emergency calls and entertainment for train passengers. Various security measures are integrated into the routers. For example, there are improvements in the software for login and SSL. In addition, the security of the 'USB Autorun' feature, which starts with a delay of 3 seconds after the USB stick is plugged in, has been improved. It cannot run in parallel and physical access to the router is also required. This feature is therefore not susceptible to brute force attacks or dictionary attacks. Furthermore, the routers are protected against other frequently used attack methods: The routers' software does not contain any hard-coded keys or certificates. When configuring the device, the user must explicitly create the keys and certificates to secure services (e.g. HTTP and SSH servers) or to implement authentication and encryption (e.g. for VPN tunnels and WLAN clients). If even stronger cryptography is required, it is recommended to create the keys on an external RNG (Random Number Generator) device or to manage all certificates on a remote certification server. Last but not least, the router software does not use default passwords or credentials. Instead, the user must set the administration password when starting up the router for the first time, which automatically sets the root password to the same password. Only then does the web manager enable the creation of further users with the corresponding authorizations.
