Reduction of cyber security risk from Tenable

Tenable has released what it claims is the industry's first solution that reduces cybersecurity risk in today's converged IT/OT environments. The company also announced an extension for the Tenable.io platform and Industrial Security, a solution that detects assets and vulnerabilities in Operational Technology (OT) systems. Tenable provides Industrial Security in partnership with Siemens, enabling companies to manage cyber exposure holistically across IT and OT and to assess and efficiently prioritize vulnerabilities by mission-critical assets. OT and critical infrastructure systems were originally designed to operate in isolation from the network and be shielded from external cyber security threats. However, digital transformation has also reached these isolated systems, transforming them into networked devices and making them valuable targets for attackers. One of the platform's enhancements is Smart Scanning: Smart Scanning creates a smart layer using active scanning and passive network monitoring to assess IT and OT systems in a single workflow. In certain situations, active scanning of sensitive OT systems can overload the system and ultimately lead to system malfunctions. Smart Scanning stops active scanning of IT assets when it identifies them as OT devices. Tenable is also expanding its assessment capabilities to a wider range of OT assets. The expanded support includes over 250 additional devices and applications from Siemens, Schneider and Rockwell/Allen-Bradley. New 2D and 3D topology maps show the links between IT and OT assets as part of a converged system.
