Germany is the best location for cloud providers
A study by the Business Software Alliance concludes that Germany is the most recommendable location for cloud providers when it comes to data protection. However, the top ranking is also linked to new parameters.
The Business Software Alliance (BSA) has presented its new Global Cloud Computing Scorecard, an analysis of the political framework conditions for cloud computing worldwide. For this, the criteria of data protection, security, the occurrence of cyber attacks, ancillary copyright, internet standards, support for free trade and broadband expansion were examined for 24 countries. Germany was ranked first, up from third place in 2016.
The study confirms that Germany has strong protection for cloud services thanks to a combination of comprehensive cybercrime legislation and an up-to-date cybersecurity strategy as well as modern electronic commerce and signature laws. Furthermore, according to the BSA, Germany has comprehensive data protection laws, but also contains strict registration requirements that can act as a cost barrier to cloud computing use.
Although Germany's overall ranking has improved since the last scorecard - from third to first place - this was largely due to the realignment of the scorecard methodology. In particular, the areas of data protection, cybersecurity legislation and broadband infrastructure were given even more attention. Improved scores in the security section of the report also contributed to the increase. In second and third place are Japan and the USA.
The BSA is an organization of software companies such as Apple, Adobe and IBM, which primarily campaigns against the illegal use of software.
