European Robotics Hackathon' competitionRobots prove themselves in the nuclear power plant

Radioactive material can escape in the event of a nuclear incident. If the radiation exposure is high, robots are the best way to secure the material. At the end of June 2017, eleven self-constructed robots took on this task at the 'European Robotics Hackathon' - under real-life conditions.

A continuation of the hackathon is already being considered for 2019. "Then we will increase the level of difficulty of the exercise and create even more realistic operating conditions," says competition director Dr. Frank Schneider. For example, the teams will no longer be able to fall back on a predefined communication infrastructure. In this way, we are gradually approaching an increasingly realistic operational scenario."
