In Japan, robot sales rose by 10% to around 38,600 units in 2016, the highest level since 2006 (37,400 units). Japan is the leading country in robot production. In order to meet the growing demand for industrial robots, Japanese robot suppliers have continued to increase their capacity since 2010: production doubled from 73,900 units in 2010 to 152,600 units in 2016. This corresponds to 52% of global deliveries in 2016.
