The engineers from Festo's Bionic Learning Network are presenting new concepts for robotics at the Hannover Messe 2017. Models from nature served as inspiration: the elephant's trunk and octopus tentacles.

... made from a 3D textile knit now enables the BionicMotionRobot to exploit the great force potential of the entire kinematics. This gives the bionic robot arm a load-bearing capacity of just under three kilograms - with roughly the same dead weight. It is operated intuitively via a specially developed graphical user interface: Using a tablet, the user can easily teach and parameterize the actions to be performed.
