Siemens has added new modules and functions to the 'Simatic S7-1200' basic controller: the 45 mm wide SM1238 energy meter module allows energy currents to be recorded precisely directly on the machine, processed directly in the CPU and visualized with an HMI system. The module records electrical measured values - for example voltages up to 480 V(AC) - in a 1- or 3-phase network with a direct connection without a transformer. Diagnostic parameters for overvoltage and undervoltage, overload, tolerance value and tolerance time can be freely set by the user. An external 1- or 5-A current transformer with a conversion factor of up to 10,000 is used for current measurement. The CPU 1212FC complements the Basic Controller for fail-safe applications in the lower power range. The Basic Controller firmware has been updated with version V14 of the TIA Portal engineering framework and expanded to include additional functions. Firmware version 4.2 now includes the Media Redundancy Protocol (MRP) for the 2-port CPUs '1215' and '1217' as well as a backup/restore function for backing up project data. The failsafe CPU variants support the Profisafe protocol.
