Megatrends in the industry
Hannover Messe to promote climate-neutral production
After difficult years under coronavirus conditions, Hannover Messe wants to grow again with big names and hundreds of start-ups. The trade fair boss expects new impetus for the industry's "megatrends".
Hanover (dpa) - The Hannover Messe, the world's most important industrial trade fair, intends to present new solutions to challenges such as climate protection and energy supply next week. "The path to climate-neutral production leads through Hanover," announced Jochen Köckler, head of the trade fair, on Wednesday at the exhibition grounds. Industry has a key role to play when it comes to reducing emissions of climate-damaging greenhouse gases and developing products that consume less energy.
The Hannover Messe will officially take place from Monday, April 17 to Friday, April 21. However, it will open on Sunday evening. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) and the President of this year's partner country Indonesia, Joko Widodo, are expected in Hanover. The organizers are expecting more than 4,000 exhibitors - including big names such as Amazon Web Services, Microsoft, Google, SAP, Bosch and Nokia, as well as more than 300 start-ups.
Trade fair boss Köckler described the switch to green hydrogen as an energy source, the networking of production processes and data under the Industry 4.0 buzzword andCO2-neutral production as "megatrends" in the industry. Artificial intelligence could also help to overcome the shortage of skilled workers, especially in Germany.
In terms of visitor numbers, Köckler was optimistic that the previous year's figure of around 75,000 attendees, which was still dominated by coronavirus, would be significantly exceeded. However, the level before the pandemic, when more than 200,000 people attended, will probably not be reached again.
