Instead of a large amount of raw data, only the results obtained from it are transferred to the cloud application. Such a decentralized network structure saves bandwidth and offers more real-time capability, as the latency times associated with transmission via the Internet are eliminated. mbEdge from MBConnectline is a modular software system that expands the 'mbNet' and 'mbNet.rokey' industrial routers into an edge gateway. The additional data acquisition and processing functions enable users to utilize the remote installations in a more versatile and flexible way. 'mbEdge' is based on standards such as 'Docker container' technology and the graphical development environment 'Node-Red'. The system supports common cloud platforms and various communication protocols such as OPC-UA, S7-ISOTCP, Modbus-TCP and MQTT.
