The nationwide microchip competition 'Invent a Chip' is entering a new round under the motto "Internet of Things". The VDE and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research are now calling on schoolchildren to submit their ideas on the topic of the Internet.

... Olaf Dünkel (17) from the all-day grammar school in Osterburken. He first simulated his future vision of intelligent clothing on a model: "Sensors are used to determine the temperature and humidity above and below the clothing, for example, or to measure the current UV index," he says. A warning signal is emitted if the sun is shining too long. "Skin, hair and eye color can also be entered via a PC interface, whereupon the user is assigned a corresponding skin type," says Olaf Dünkel, describing his chip idea. The clothing should then react accordingly to external influences by changing the air circulation by opening and closing pores.
