Controller
Based on Codesys V3
The new Adam-5560CDS modular PLC controller from Advantech is based on the Codesys V3 engineering platform. It has an Intel Atom D510 CPU with controller-specific features such as a watchdog and battery-backed RAM.
The embedded real-time operating system Microsoft Windows CE 6.0 is pre-installed. The basic device offers internal space for seven I/O modules (for digital and analog inputs and outputs), via which it can operate up to 224 inputs and outputs. Two Ethernet ports (2 x RJ45) provide connectivity to various network architectures and to remote I/O modules. The core of the PC-based controller is the latest version of the Codesys V3 runtime system Codesys Control and Visualization. According to the manufacturer, the free development system contains all the components required for engineering and all six IEC 61131 languages as well as a machine code compiler, a powerful debugger and an easy-to-understand project configurator. In addition to the pure programming options of the Codesys development tool for soft PLCs, a graphical editor allows system integrators to develop the visualization for display on an industrial panel via the VGA interface of the ADAM-5560.
