More and more products are aimed at cloud use - from gateways that smooth the path of data into the cloud to corresponding platforms that are used for data analysis.
SSV Software Systems has developed a special app concept for industrial gateways to connect Industry 4.0 and Industrial IoT applications with practically any cloud based on open standards; according to the company, it is even possible to use multiple clouds simultaneously. SSV offers a software architecture for the IGW/936 gateways that can be expanded via a connectivity app. The individual binary files with the app extensions are signed so that software integrity is always guaranteed. The apps can be installed at any time via an HTTP(S) connection. They are executed on the gateway in a secure environment to prevent any impairment of the basic functions. The apps installed on the gateway can be managed via a web interface and connected to the desired connectivity solution using a graphical data flow editor. Cloud connectivity apps are currently available for Amazon, Cumolocity, Google, IBM, Mindsphere, Predix and basically all Cloud Foundry-based platforms. SSL/TLS, PKI and X.509 certificates are provided to secure the connection. Protocols such as REST, PPMP, MQTT and OPC UA are also available as apps.
