Breaking the 100 million barrier
The total number of Profibus and Profinet products installed in systems has exceeded an impressive threshold of 104 million. Profinet has reached its highest annual figure to date with 7.3 million products launched on the market.
Profinet also achieved good growth in the coronavirus year 2020. The installed base has now exceeded the 40 million mark.
© PIDespite the challenges posed by the pandemic, products with technologies from Profibus&Profinet International (PI) have been very well received by users. The total number of Profibus and Profinet products installed in systems has exceeded an impressive threshold of 104 million. Profinet has reached its highest ever annual figure of 7.3 million products launched on the market. The total number of Profinet devices installed increased by more than 22% compared to the previous year and reached a total of 40 million. In 2020, a total of 1.7 million Profibus devices were launched on the market, 0.8 million of which were used in process industry applications. Over the past few years, the proportion of Profibus products installed in process technology systems has increased continuously and it is expected that the majority of Profibus products will be supplied for process automation systems in the following year. In production technology, around four times more devices are now equipped with a Profinet interface than with a Profibus interface.
More than 21 million IO-Link installations
IO-Link continues its growth trajectory in 2020 and delivers the highest annual figure to date with 5 million new IO-Link devices.
© PIIO-Link delivered 5 million devices in 2020, the highest annual figure to date. IO-Link has thus achieved a growth rate of 31% even in difficult times, which is proof that the technology is firmly anchored in applications. The total number of IO-Link devices installed now exceeds 21 million.
With 2.6 million nodes installed in 2020, Profisafe just exceeded the previous year's figure. The total number of Profisafe nodes installed is therefore more than 16 million.
