2D absolute positioning system PXV from Pepperl+Fuchs
© Pepperl+Fuchs

The PXV 2D absolute positioning system from Pepperl+Fuchs is being launched with an enlarged reading window of 120 mm x 80 mm so that the data matrix code band always remains within the detection range. The reading window with enlarged depth of field always detects several codes at the same time and additionally secures the position determination through multiple redundancy. Unlike other systems available on the market, the "PXV" only requires a 2D camera. This prevents irritation in the area of switches. As a certain amount of soiling of the code tape is often unavoidable in day-to-day operations, the codes for the positioning system have been enlarged to 15 mm x 15 mm. With their "coarse-grained" design, they are insensitive to soiling. Thanks to redundant detection, the system is not disturbed by the destruction of individual codes. The code band can be interrupted up to a distance of 80 mm without affecting the position detection. With the safePXV, all this is achieved by a single positioning system with just one sensor. The system's safety technology combines a 2D read head with a three-color DataMatrix code band. The special code band contains two overlapping DataMatrix codes in red and blue. The 2D read head is equipped with two differently colored LED rings - also in red and blue. These are activated separately and then only read one DataMatrix code at a time. The result is always a SIL3/PLe absolute position.
