With the new safety controllers from Beckhoff based on the TwinSafe Logic EL6910, the TwinSafe system can be adapted even more specifically to the individual requirements of a machine concept and to a wider range of safety applications. These are the following I/O components: EL1918 TwinSafe Ethercat Terminal - digital input terminal with eight safe inputs; EL2911 TwinSafe Ethercat Terminal - safe potential feed with four safe inputs and one safe output; EP1957-0022 TwinSafe Ethercat Box - IP67-protected digital combi module with eight safe inputs and four safe outputs. The three new I/O components can be used as safety controllers for the direct implementation of customer-specific safety projects. A special feature here is their communication capability, as the safety project to be executed on the I/O component can establish direct communication relationships with other safety-relevant participants in the same way as the dedicated safety controller and pre-process this data internally. If a central safety controller is present in this scenario, it only has to process the accumulated data. The combination of I/O and TwinSafe control function in an I/O component simplifies the distribution of safety tasks to individual machine modules. In engineering, the customizing function ensures convenient working and minimized validation effort. Thanks to the new customizing function, the different operating modes 'temporarily deactivatable', 'permanently deactivatable' and 'passivatable' can now be configured for each of these modules. With the corresponding configuration of substitute values for the interfaces between the modules, modular and scalable architectures can be implemented. A single safety project can be used for an entire series of machines, for example, by deactivating the modules that are not required as needed.
