Cognex has launched the MX-1000 product line, a family of robust terminals for mobile data collection. According to the supplier, the series combines the ease of use, low cost and flexibility of a standard smartphone with a robust portable unit that includes a specially designed barcode reader. The first generation of mobile data terminals features technology for reading 1-D and 2-D codes. As the hardware in each device is a full scanning device, the terminals can read more than just barcodes - other image processing-based functions such as OCR, parcel dimensioning and parcel inspection are conceivable for the future.
