Dr. Bernd Burbaum (40) has developed a new laser welding process with which expensive gas turbine blades can be repaired so that they are as good as new afterwards. Another advantage is that the blades no longer need to be preheated before laser welding. The researcher, who works at Siemens Power and Gas in Berlin, is convinced that there is still a lot of potential for innovation in new types of welding processes. Burbaum was awarded Inventor of the Year in the "Talent" category.
