The angle measuring modules from Heidenhain combine high-precision angle encoders and precision bearings and, according to the supplier, are a real alternative to air-bearing axes in terms of reproducible guidance accuracy. A new feature is the integration of a torque motor with a very low cogging torque. The angle measuring modules with integrated drive take on the tasks of driving, guiding and measuring with specified high accuracy in demanding applications. The low and uniform friction torque enables uniform rotary movements; the combination with a special torque motor ensures uniform motion control. Neither interfering cogging torques nor lateral forces affect the guidance accuracy of the bearing. In addition, the integration of the angle measuring module and motor components results in a compact system with a low overall height and high rigidity. The devices are particularly optimized for the requirements of metrology applications.
