The Early Access Technology Platform for Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN), which is intended to drive the development of new synchronization and communication technologies, will be presented by National Instruments. Developed in collaboration with Cisco and Intel, the platform is designed to enable users to execute control, regulation and measurement applications deterministically and time-synchronized on distributed systems via standard Ethernet connections. The platform comprises new CompactRIO controllers with Intel Atom processors and a TSN-capable I210 network connection from Intel. The controllers are programmed using Labview system design software to maintain time synchronization on the network and to synchronize processing on both the real-time processor and the FPGA based on timing constraints. Since time is a basic concept of Labview, signal processing, control algorithms and I/O timing can be coordinated with scheduled network transmissions and between multiple systems distributed on a network.
