Simotics AMB-Technology is an active magnetic bearing system for large machines such as high-speed, high-voltage motors or industrial turbines and compressors. The rotors of such applications are held contact-free in the center of the bearings, without any friction or wear. Sensors record the shaft positions 16,000 times per second and a controller adjusts the magnetic fields so that the rotor hovers exactly in the center of the bearing. Even rotors weighing several tons can be held in a position window with the diameter of a human hair, even at maximum speed.
