STMicroelectronics supports technology brands in designing safer applications with software for STM32 microcontrollers. The STM32 SIL Functional-Safety Design Package is intended for designers of STM32-based devices in the fields of industrial control, robotics, sensors, medicine or transportation that need to be certified up to SIL 2 or 3. In addition to the documentation, the 'SIL Functional-Safety Design Package' consists of the X-Cube-STL, a software self-test library certified to IEC 61508 SIL3, and is initially available for the STM32F0 series. However, corresponding packages for the other series of the STM32 family are to be introduced on an ongoing basis. The family currently comprises over 800 microcontroller variants. TÜV Rheinland has tested the X-Cube-STL-F0 with positive results in accordance with the IEC 61508:2010 functional safety standard.
