With the EU5C-SWD-Sercos gateway, Eaton offers machine and plant manufacturers the option of connecting the intelligent wiring and communication system 'SmartWire-DT' to the Sercos III fieldbus; SmartWire-DT previously supported Profibus-DP, CANopen, Modbus-TCP, Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Powerlink and Ethercat. The gateway, which is the result of a cooperation with Hilscher, transmits the data from the various SmartWire-DT devices to the controller via Sercos. It can exchange up to 1000 bytes of input and output data from a maximum of 99 devices in cyclical operation. It also allows acyclical communication. In addition to the integrated 100 MBit switch for fieldbus communication via sercos, a USB interface is available for diagnostic purposes. Configuration in the programming system is carried out as usual for sercos devices by using a standardized XML description file. This is integrated into the programming system, after which the individual SmartWire-DT modules can be selected and parameterized as usual.
