Atlantik Elektronik offers the 'XBee' ZigBee modules of the 'S2C' series from Digi as a through-hole variant. As customer applications can be programmed directly onto the modules, the costs for a separate processor are eliminated and the duration of application development is reduced. The programmable S2C TH modules are suitable for networking various sensors/actuators, for home automation, for lighting control, for remote monitoring/control of combined heat and power plants or for monitoring/data acquisition of solar inverters. They are equipped with a microprocessor that provides the connection to the host processor via an SPI or UART interface. To reduce the load on the host processor, there are also programmable versions with 32 Kbyte flash and 2 Kbyte RAM, which allow the user to transfer certain processes to the XBee module. Ranges of up to 60/90 m indoors and 1.2 km / 3.2 km outdoors (XBee/XBee Pro) are possible. The maximum transmission power of the modules is 63 mW (XBee Pro), the current consumption is 31 mA in boost mode and 28 mA in normal mode.
