Corona pandemic
ZVEI demands: Maintain industrial production
It feels like the automotive industry is at a standstill. So far, there have been no reports from large industrial companies that production is being shut down. The ZVEI comments: "Medical technology and many other sectors are necessary in the fight against the virus" - so please do not stop production.
The official announcement states that the ZVEI is convinced that the fight against the coronavirus requires a strong and productive industry, especially in these times. "In order to implement the pandemic contingency plans, our medical technology companies must be able to continue production," explains ZVEI President Michael Ziesemer. "This requires that supply chains and logistics are guaranteed and that the workforce can continue to come to the companies."
This is the ZVEI's response to voices calling for a Chinese-style shutdown of European industrial production. "We now need more ventilators, more computer tomographs and much more, not less," continued Ziesemer. "Our automation specialists, for example, are helping to ensure that production in pharmaceutical companies does not come to a standstill." A fundamental shutdown of the industry would therefore not be expedient. "In this difficult situation, the industry wants to make an important contribution to overcoming the crisis."
He appeals to companies to take the highest protective measures for their workforces. "It goes without saying that the safety of each individual must also be guaranteed in production." This also includes maintaining the minimum distance from each other that is currently necessary.
