AI is used once a week

A global survey by Freshworks shows that despite skepticism about the safety of AI-supported software, 66% of Germans still feel comfortable using AI. In contrast, 40% of executives and managers in Germany do not consider software applications that have been enhanced with AI to be safe. German respondents stated that they mainly use AI-enhanced software applications for text/audio analysis or translation (49%), image generation and classification (35%) and fraud or threat detection (26%).

Half of respondents (50%) believe that their work is easier to do with AI-powered tools. 28% say they estimate they save 9 hours or more per week by using AI-powered tools, while 45% believe they can save between 3 and 8 hours per week. More than a third (35%) express interest in the new technology and look forward to using it.

However, for all the enthusiasm, 63% believe that AI results still need more human oversight to produce effective, actionable results.

Concern about relocation of the workplace

Almost half (42%) of German managers fear that AI will eventually replace a large proportion of the workforce in their field - an assessment shared by their European counterparts.

Two thirds (66%) admitted that they are looking for ways to expand their AI skills in order to remain as marketable as possible. Again, almost half (45%) of German respondents believe that AI will be able to replace younger positions in the future, resulting in a loss of access to the next generation of workers. Despite these concerns, respondents are aware of the value that people bring to the workplace.

In Germany, AI is already being used extensively for basic tasks, demonstrating confidence in AI's capabilities. German entrepreneurs and managers recognize the potential of AI to deliver a positive return on investment for businesses and are therefore already prepared to face concerns about job displacement.

Despite this optimism and appreciation of the benefits AI can bring, these are tempered by caution and concern about its wider societal impact. AI-powered tools are transforming workflows, productivity and performance in the workplace. While the uptake of such tools varies from country to country, the potential they offer is undeniable.
