Project 'DC Industry' - Part 1DC instead of AC in the production grid
Research and industry are working hard to redesign the power supply for industrial systems via a smart, open DC grid. The article describes the challenges of the 'DC Industry' project and the system specification developed so far.
With a stationary machine from Homag - specifically a flexible CNC machining center - DC technology is being investigated within a production machine. It enables the machining of larger panels with over 30 tools. It was selected for the DC industry because larger masses are accelerated and decelerated. A chemical energy storage system was also integrated. Here too, a direct comparison with AC technology is part of the investigations. In addition, the properties of energy management in a single machine are to be determined.
